Markets end flat amid volatile trad |
The markets ended the day marginally in the green with the benchmark index settling at 15,465 levels, up 0.3 per cent or 43 points.

The markets ended the day marginally in the green with the benchmark index settling at 15,465 levels, up 0.3 per cent or 43 points.
The Sensex moved in a range of 15,389 - 15,521 levels in intra-day deals. In the broader markets, the Nifty closed at 4,479 levels.
Leading the charge at the Sensex on Tuesday was Reliance Energy. The counter firmed up six per cent or Rs 46. Cipla, Grasim Industries, HDFC, Ranbaxy, ACC, Maruti Udyog, Ambuja Cements, Infosys Technologies and Larsen & Toubro also logged gains.
Tata Motors at Rs 691 levels skidded 1.7 per cent on the back of the company reporting a fall in sales during August. Sales at 45,144 units slipped 0.4 per cent to 45,325 units on year-on-year basis.
NTPC, Hindalco, Wipro, Tata Motors, BHEL, Bajaj Auto, Bharti Airtel, ITC Limited, Tata Steel, Mahindra & Mahindra and ONGC were some of the other key losers.
Building gains
Among sectoral indices, the BSE realty index was the top gainer that zoomed 1.6 per cent or 120 points by close of trading session.
Omaxe (up 4.3 per cent), Peninsula Land (up 3.4 per cent), Ansal API (up 3.3 per cent), Unitech Limited (up 3.3 per cent), Mahindra Gesco (up 2.9 per cent), Anant Raj (up 2.9 per cent) and DLF Limited (up 2.1 per cent) gained ground.
Most oil and gas scrips found fresh investor interest. MRPL was the top gainer in this pack that flared 5.9 per cent. IOC, BPCL, HPCL, GAIL India and Reliance Industries also ended in positive turf.
Saurashtra Cement (up 10.1 per cent), India Cements (up 7.2 per cent), Deccan Cements (up 6.9 per cent), Mangalam Cement (up 6.9 per cent), Mysore Cement (up 6.3 per cent) and Prism Cement (up 6.3 per cent) were some of the notable gainers in the cement space.
Metals melt
Auto stocks witnessed profit booking on Tuesday. The BSE auto index skidded 0.5 per cent by close and was the top loser among sectoral indices.
