| A day after US Ambassador to India, David Mulford had said that the 123 Agreement must come up for a vote in the US Congress by January 2008 latest, senior US official Richard Stratford said in Viena on Thursday that the groundwork must be completed by the end of this year.
''The US wants to meet the entire pre-requisites of the operationalisation of the deal by the end of this year,'' he said.
It's a tough timeline for India since the Left parties have warned the government to put the deal on hold for six months.
Stratford said he would tell the NSG about the conditions India has laid out for an unconditional exemption for civil nuclear cooperation.
The US is meeting with the 45 member Nuclear Suppliers Group on Thursday.
