| The Centre will give the go-ahead to Karnataka Governor Rameshwar Thakur to revoke President's rule in the state on Thursday.
This will pave the way for the first BJP chief minister in the south.
The Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA) will meet today to discuss the issue.
For the past 48 hours, the Governor had come under increasing flak for what the BJP and JD(S) said was a questionable delay in inviting them to form a new government.
The two parties had set aside their differences last Saturday and they met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday to get the Governor to speed up the process of revoking President's rule.
Led by senior leader L K Advani and party chief Rajnath Singh, the delegation of BJP MPs told Singh that four days have passed since the BJP-JD(S) combine staked claim for formation of government but Governor Rameshwar Thakur has not yet recommended the revocation of President's rule.
The Prime Minister assured the delegation that the Centre will go ''by the spirit of the Constitution but did not give any specific timeframe'' regarding lifting of the President's rule.
A Congress Core Group, which met on Wednesday, discussed the political situation in the state.
