| One person has been killed and several people injured after fourteen bogies of the Delhi-bound DN Brahmaputra mail derailed.
The incident took place about 15 kilometres from New Jalpaiguri junction in West Bengal on Sunday night at around 11 pm.
While three bogies next to the engine went ahead, the remaining bogies of the train derailed between Rangapani and Njibari stations.
The cause of the derailment is still not clear.
Of the several injured, two people are reported to be critical. Rescue vans are at the spot.
The emergency unit of North Bengal Medical College and Hospital and the Bengdubi Army Hospital has been alerted for injured patients, he said.
Four North Bengal State Transport Corporation buses have been requisitioned for transportation of stranded passengers, numbering around 300-400 at the spot.
Movement of railway traffic along the stretch was affected and the UP Awadh-Assam Express was halted before Nijbari station. (With PTI inputs)
