| North India is freezing as temperature drops almost 4 degrees below normal in states such as Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab and Haryana.
In Delhi, the minimum temperature on Monday morning was 4.6 degree Celsius. Cold wave conditions are also expected to hit Bihar, Jharkhand and eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh.
According to the Met department, these conditions are likely to prevail for at least the next two days. The lowest minimum temperature in the plains was 1.2 degree Celsius recorded in Amritsar.
Sunday was the coldest day of the season in Delhi and the weatherman has said it will only get worse during the week.
The mercury dipped to 4.4 degrees centigrade. The unexpected drop made even a seasoned morning walker like Greater Kailash resident Roshina Gautam take a break from a 35-year routine.
''It was very cold and so I decided to give myself a day off and rest than go for a walk,'' said Roshina.
But the biting cold could not stop others like 77-year-old Rajeshwar Tyagi.
''It was colder than other days but once I started walking it was quite pleasant,'' said Tyagi.
The minimum temperature dropped almost 4 degrees in a single day after being 8.2 degrees centigrade on Saturday. According to the Meteorological Department, northwesterly winds are responsible for bringing in the chill.
