Go by majority on N-deal: Left to g
But was still looking at reaching a political consensus within the country to take the deal forward.
 INDIA , 3-March-2008  4:40:32 AM
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has released a statement on External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee's statement in Parliament on talks with IAEA, saying that the government should first respect the majority opinion expressed by Parliament.

Earlier, Mukherjee said on Monday that the government was in the process of concluding negotiations with the International Atomic Energy Agency on the Indo-US nuclear deal.

But was still looking at reaching a political consensus within the country to take the deal forward.

Negotiators from India and IAEA concluded the fifth round of talks on the safeguards on Thursday and reported considerable progress towards the text which once completed will be presented to a Left-UPA committee.

The left has been strongly opposed to any sort of strategic alliance with the United States including nuclear cooperation.
