The Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh on Sunday rejected a debate on Marathi and north-Indian issue, which had gripped the state.
He said the state does not subscribe to such views.
''The culture of Maharashtra does not differentiate people on the basis of their language and culture,'' Deshmukh said while talking to reporters.
On the editorial in Samana by the Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray against the Biharis, the CM reiterated that he was seeking legal opinion on the issue.
The chief minister also said that 12 Governor nominated MLCs would be appointed soon.
He said Maharashtra was facing a power shortage of 5,000 MW in the peak season.
The government was also thinking of using non-conventional energies to augment the shortage, he said adding that use of solar energy can be used in hospitals.
Pitching for needy farmers
Deshmukh also said that his government would write to the Centre to come out with a better definition and criteria for determining the needy farmers so that maximum farmers can benefit of the loan waiver.
He said that the government would prepare a report and send it to the central government on the issues of rain fed and irrigated land comparison that have come up after the announcement of loan waiver scheme for the farmers having landholding upto five acres.
He said ''it would be better if the centre comes out with norms for the irrigated and rain fed land holdings while giving the benefit of loan waiver,'' said Deshmukh while briefing reporters after the customary tea party with the Opposition parties on the eve of the budget session of the state legislature.
He said at present there are some anomalies over the definition of small and marginal farmers which needs to be sorted out.
Regarding the illegal money lenders, Deputy Chief Minister RR Patil said the state has 7,000 legal money lenders and also several illegal ones. He said a total of 2,100 illegal moneylenders have been arrested so far.
