Choreographed by Hema and Krithika Rajagopalan, and performed by members of the critically acclaimed Natya Dance Theatre Company, ALAKSHAYA - The Invisible Veil uses the traditional movement and vocabulary of Bharata Natyam and invites the audience to query their reactions to such contemporary themes as genocide, terrorism and war. Natya looks deep into issues where agriculture and politics meet as a metaphor to issues of globalization. This evening-length work presents universal themes, exposing the tragedy and suffering we cause by self-centered actions, and leads us to ask why we overlook wrongdoings in the world around us. It will be performed to live music played by classical musicians from India and jazz musicians under the leadership of Chicago bass player and composer Doug Lofstrom. The score seamlessly joins Indian ragas and jazz elements.
