Announcing India’s First Ultra Marathon
Come 16th December, Bangalore will find itself on the global running map. For the first time in India, the gruelling Bangalore Ultra will be organised – an activity that embodies the acme of fitness.
Runners for Life (RFL), a division of The Fuller Life, is organising India’s first Ultra Marathon, on Sunday, 16th Dec, 2007 in the outskirts of Bangalore.
An Ultra Marathon is a run where the distances covered by the participants are greater than the standard marathon’s distance of 42.2km. It usually consists of a mix of trail and road running across scenic surroundings.
At the Bangalore Ultra, runners can pick any distance (the favoured one is 52 km) provided they manage it within the 12 hours that the course is open. The distances in an Ultra marathon (up to 104 km) are truly testing and the event attracts runners for whom the only competition is against themselves. That is why the tagline of the Bangalore Ultra is “It’s Tough. Are you?”
Runners for Life is a club for runners. So this is an event by runners for runners. The race caters to serious athletes – irrespective of the time they take to run their distance. You will not find a 5 km race for celebrities here. You will, however, find well-stocked aid stations that will be open for the entire 12 hours, adequate medical resources and committed people to run with. The number of registrations is capped at 200 so that we can provide a high quality race. There are no celebrities at an Ultra.
RFL is confident that their Bangalore Ultra – India’s first Ultra Marathon – will put Bangalore on the running map – and will be the beginning of many such similar Ultras across India as interest catches on.
