Canada’s most progressive South Asian dance company, inDANCE crafts a provocative global view of contemporary Indian dance for its premiere season at the Joyce SoHo in New York City. Toronto based inDANCE presents five of its signature works choreographed by artistic director Hari Krishnan. All works push the boundaries of contemporary dance and challenge dominant discourses about culture.
BOX-facing off on hybrid identities; Inverse-a kinetic dialogue about poetic dissonance; “ mea culpa…”- excerpts from an eroticized, exotic, unauthorized pseudo-biography; owning shadows- interrogates a Ramayana narrative stripped of its linear mythology; BOLLYWOOD hopscotch- a whimsical and subversive take on Bollywood retro-culture and today’s Bharatanatyam.
