Mahatma Gandhi worked tirelessly to promote peace and cultural diversity during his lifetime. His worktransformed colonial India, including Pakistan and Bangladesh, colonial South Africa and turn-of-the-century Britain. His philosophy of non-violent persuasion tied the thinking of Tolstoy and Thoreau with Martin LutherKing’ s activism and brought about the Civil Rights Movement in America. His vision electrified thinkers such as Einstein as well as great spiritual and political leaders. His legacy endures beyond the past century. Gandhi’ s leadership and philosophy are reflected in the achievements of contemporary Nobel Prize winners throughout the world. However, our world remains deeply troubled by illiteracy, strife and violence. It is, therefore, essential to recall and re-conceptualize Mahatma Gandhi’ s vision of truth, faith, non-violence,satyagraha, ahimsa, education & freedom in our modern times. The universal language of art is the most effective way to express his historical and powerful legacy. By indulging dance, music and visual media and by spurring such interactive innovation through this performanceproject together and at once, the eternally potent message of Gandhi shall bloom once again.
