IFA presents an exhibition that intimately captures the journey of the art form, JATRA, currently in wane, from the unique perspective of Soumya Sankar Bose, born into an extended family of Jatra artists, and a witness to the many changes. The inner lives of Jatra artists seep into black and white photographs, and attempt to recapture the magic of a form that has entertained, educated and informed over many decades. These staged photographs of former Jatra artists explore the nuances of sustainability, livelihood and art, as Jatra battles competition from television, and film. Soumya's technique creates a time warp, as the past bleeds into the present to evoke memories of a grand past, slowly fading into the quotidian. The Jatra artists featured, and the photographer, will be present at the venue to interact.
