Chicago pays a tribute to M.S. Subbulakshmi at the Elmhurst College World Music Series.
Kalapriya and Elmhurst College pay tribute to the late M. S. Subbulakshmi, known as the “Nightingale of India.” The tribute offers a view of the person, the events in her life and the world she occupied. It is the only one to be curated by Gowri Ramnarayan who has known M.S. all her life. She has been her biographer, her student and protégé. Gowri shows the evolution of her global appeal through the songs she sang at various stages of the history of the century that she was born into. Each song will be preceded by the stories and relationships and historical events that brought them into her life.
