Perumalpuram is a village with a difference. It has no hotels, no political parties, no flag poles, no slogans, no police stations, and no alcohol. The folks there abide by a set of rules. Those who flout the rules are thrown out of the village. At the heart of the village is Devarmattom, and in the heart of the villagers is Devarmattom Narayanan, who is the ultimate deciding authority in the village and whose word is law. Though he commands the respect of the entire village, Narayanan is a simple man who has the good of the people in mind. He lost both his parents when he was still a child. His entire life has been a fight for truth and justice.
Close by is Kaaliyaar village, which is the very opposite of everything that Perumalpuram is. At the centre of the village is Kaaliyaarmattom with Mooppil Kunjmbu Nair, an uncle and sworn enemy of Narayanan as the patriarch. He and his four ruthless sons are out to destroy Devarmattom. Prajapathy tells the story of the rivalry between these two families. The film has Mammootty in the lead role with Kannada actress Adithi Rao doing the female lead. Renjith who directs the film has also written the story. Azhakappan, whose last work was Rasathanthram, wields the camera. His ability to use natural lighting is commendable. The film is being shot close to Gopichettipalayam in Tamil Nadu.
