    Chettayees Review - 12/7/2012 10:11:57 AM
'Chettayees' by Shajoon Karyal is a comic entertainer that doesn't do much for the viewers in terms of comedy or a story-line.

The film tells the tale of five friends. Lal plays the role of a lawyer named John Pallan. Musician Kichu played by Biju Menon is his friend. Others in the gang are actor Roopesh Krishna (Suresh Krishna), government servant Babumon played by debutant Sunil Babu and P. Sukumar as Bava, a chef.

The movie centers around the antics of these five friends who get together at John's apartment. The five of them together turn out to be a nuisance for the other residents in the complex. 'Chettayees' has a very simple story. It is designed to produce a few laughs though it fails for the most part.

The director has tried to create comic situations through dialogues that are staid and wacky. The bad mouthing of the five-some who wisecrack about sex and drinks just evokes a wry smile. Performance wise, Biju Menon does a class act and proves once again that he has mastered the art of comedy. Lal and the rest of the cast are mediocore though good performances can be witnessed in patches. Sachi's script and its execution by the director could have been better. Deepak Dev's music and Vinod Illampilly's visuals are commendable. The essence that makes comedy work is more or less absent in 'Chettayees'.
