Viewers have witnessed a number of wedding tales on screen, each of which is varied in treatment and presentation. Shafi, who directed many hit movies, has created a signature statement of sorts with hit wedding movies like Kalyanaraman, PulivalKalyanam, Makeup Man etc. '101 Weddings' is the latest movie by Shafi which has marriage as its thread. The film is clean family entertainer which has the right mix of every emotion, of relationships, and a message at the end for viewers to take home with them.This multi-starrer which has Kunchacko Boban, Jayasurya and Biju Menon in the lead, even has some terrific song and dance sequences.
'101 Weddings' begins with the tale of two young boys. Krishnankutty's (Kunchacko Boban) father is a Gandhian who stands for justice and often sits sathyagraha to achieve his goal. Antappan (Biju Menon) is the other character whose father's illegal alcohol business is forced to close down by Gandhian Munshi Shankara Pillai with sathyagraha. Krishnankutty is forced to bear the brunt of their ire. The film hinges on this tale and the ensuing complications when Krishnankutty falsely implicate Antappan in a theft case for which he goes to jail. The next phase shows krishnankutty all grown up, a young man far removed from his father's ideals, a frequenter of bars and a few fraud tricks up his sleeve.
