A couple elopes to Ooty and marries with the help of their friends. Soon enough, their friends are captured by a mystery man who wants them to play a 'game of death' with them. What's his motive?
Movie Review: Sutrula has a decent psycho killer premise but the execution is laughably bad that the film ends up as an unintentionally funny film — the one you can go to with a gang of friends (the more the merrier), crack jokes at the way things happen on screen and have jolly good fun.
The plot involves Mahesh, who brings his four friends to Ooty under the pretense of sightseeing but plans to make them get him married to Deepa, his lover. Meanwhile, Johnny, who lives in a palatial mansion, sees Deepa and wants her to be with him. He is furious when Deepa marries Mahesh and kidnaps his friends, constructs a 'game of death' and challenges Mahesh to save his friends if he can.
What is frustrating about Sutrula is the incompetence on display. Even with a premise that offers potential — you have romance, friendship, murder and wait, mother sentiment — Rajesh Alfred's filmmaking is so rudimentary. The writing lacks the tautness that the story demands and isn't smart as well. Characters act in an implausible manner all the time.
