Cast: Mahendran, Manisha Jith, MS Bhaskar, Mano Bala, Mahanadi Shankar.Direction: Lawraa.Genre: Comedy.Duration: 2 hours 16 minutes
Synopsis: A young man and woman running away from their homes are taken to a police station, where they become spectators to the goings-on at the place.
Movie Review: There are films that are made up entirely of moments and no story as such but Vindhai is a film that neither has a story nor moments. The film begins with Karthi (Mahendra) and Kavya (Manisha) running away from their homes and boarding a lorry. The action then cuts to a police station where the two are brought in. The cop suspects them to be eloping lovers and we keep waiting for something to happen and move this plot forward, but trust me, nothing happens — not for the next 20 minutes, not before the interval (which is generally when our filmmakers decide to introduce a surprising development) and not even after the interval. We see various people, from a wannabe director and a married couple to a drug peddler, transgenders and prostitutes, come and go without adding anything to the plot. All these characters are played by the likes of Muthukaalai, Scissor Manohar and Nellai Siva, actors who play minor roles in various movies, and they are here as comedians to make us laugh but all they make us do is to scream like one of the characters — Appa... Thaangalada saami, kolrangale!
