Laughs and bangs go all the way, but that is all there is to it. Pulp fictionesque quirkiness was promised in 'Double Barrel', yet the narrative appeared too caricatured, with characters loud mouthing and laughing in obsessive abandon. Gangster movies are quite a popular genre and young filmmakers are often found emulating them. Director Lijo Jose Pellissery makes a brave attempt to combine the gangster genre with the pulp. Though there are instances of excellent technical detailing, one finds it difficult to digest the overall narrative.
With a movie like this which has been given a different treatment, the content can easily be overlooked as one gets engaged with the way in which the narrative unfolds. However, with 'Double Barrel' not only is the content insane, so is the presentation. The trailer itself had given an inkling about the movie. There is this precious gem, Laila Majnu, which gets value only together to the tune of 100 cr. Pancho and Vinci's attempts to get the stones for a don and subsequent tangles forms the plot. To this basic plot are added thin layers of other characters and detours.
Prithviraj and Indrajith has done this experimental role as best as they could, given the lack of references.
