Synopsis: V K Prakash is too busy sugar-coating the film's themes of promiscuity, pregnancy out of wedlock and loose moral codes. While this does make the movie easier to watch, it takes viewers down a cliched path.
Review: Rock Star could easily be the most misleading title of the year! The movie is a new-gen romcom about a rock singer Ananth Abraham (Siddharth Menon) who gets beauty stylist Athira Menon (Eva Pavithran) pregnant after a one-night stand. V K Prakash, who has directed several bold movies, including 'Beautiful' and 'Trivandrum Lodge', is found wanting this time as he is too busy sugar-coating the film's themes of promiscuity, pregnancy out of wedlock and loose moral codes. While this does make the movie easier to watch, it takes viewers down a cliched path.
The characters depict different aspects of today's youth. Both Ananth and Athira don't believe in marriage, yet they hold dear traditional values of good parenting. The duo decides to deal with the pregnancy by getting married, having the child and then getting divorced. Whether their lives pan out according to plan forms the crux of the tale.
The script is watered down to make it acceptable to the audience, but in the process loses whatever steam it built up in the first 30 minutes.
