| TIRUPATI : After the Swadeshi Jagaran Manch (SJM), it was the turn of the BJP's `Hindu Devalaya Parirakshana Samithi' to take up cudgels on Thursday, against the TTD for what it called its `inhuman and unkind' act. It has been a practice in the TTD for the last several years to round-off beggars and fleecing hawkers from the vicinity of the temple and dump them inside the forests, off Tirumala temple, mostly during night, as part of their periodical drive to keep beggars and petty hawkers at bay.
It was under one such `programme', a TTD health official based at Tirumala was said to have recently carted away a destitute old woman along with a batch of beggars and left her inside the thickets. It was this `uncivilised and cruel' act, that too by a premier religious organisation like the TTD, that has come in for severe rebuke especially from the Sangh Parivar. .
State vice-president of the Hindu Devalaya Parirakshana Samithi, M. Subramanyam Yadav has on Thursday called on TTD Executive Officer A.P.V. N. Sarma and threatened to launch an agitation if the TTD did not take immediate steps to trace the old woman and hand her over to her family members or provide her rehabilitation.
Intervention
The SJM had said on Wednesday that it would seek the intervention of the Human Rights Commission if the authorities concerned failed to trace the old woman and reunite her with her family.
