AP police deny role in Gujarat.....
Police in Andhra Pradesh say they were not involved in the murder of Sohrabuddin in a fake encounter by Gujarat police in 2005.
 INDIA , 1-May-2007  10:24:35 AM
Police in Andhra Pradesh say they were not involved in the murder of Sohrabuddin in a fake encounter by Gujarat police in 2005.

But they confirmed that normal logistical support was given, which they said was a routine procedure. They also ruled out an inquiry for the moment.

Police in Gujarat on Monday told the Supreme Court that police from Andhra Pradesh were also involved.

The case, until now, involved only the Gujarat and Rajasthan police.

In its report to the Supreme Court the Gujarat government added that identity of the AP policemen is being investigated and that Kausar Bi was killed on November 28.

The report says that Kausar Bi's body was burnt few days after the murder and that a third person was kidnapped along with Sohrabuddin and wife. It says the identity and fate of the third person kidnapped is unknown.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday said it will give its order on the demand for a CBI probe on Thursday.

Earlier, the Gujarat government on Monday confirmed to the Supreme Court that Kausar Bi was killed a few days after her husband. Sohrabuddin was murdered in a fake encounter in November 2005.

Last week, three police officers, including DIG DG Vanjara, were arrested for the fake encounter.

More arrests

Investigators say there could be more arrests soon, although the CID would try and get some of the accused to turn approvers.

A Gujarat court has extended police custody of the three arrested IPS officers till May 5.

In Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, Kausar Bi's family isn't entirely surprised by Monday's admission.

''She was not a terrorist. We are so unfortunate that we haven't even got her body. We could not do her funeral. We were hoping against hope. We want justice,'' said Abdul Rayees, Kausar Bi's brother.

But has there been another cover-up?

The encounter in which Tulsiram Prajapati was killed is also being investigated.
