LALITHA: music | dance | poetry
Lalitha is a creative offering in memory of Lalitha Swaminathan, a renowned classical South Indian Carnatic music vocalist from Maryland. A program of dance, music and poetry celebrates women - portraying women rejoicing, indulging in their beauty to the Mother Goddess, showing her strength and power, and women as mothers, showing maternal love. Memorable women from Hindu mythology and their stories are recounted through music and dance while poetry in English weaves together different program elements.
Family members PK Swaminathan, mridangam, Rajna Swaminathan, mridangam, Anjna Swaminathan, violin, Lalit Subramaniam, vocal and Vijay Palaparty, nattuvangam comprise the music ensemble. The Spilling Ink Project’s Nalini Prakash leads a corps of women dancers who include Sonali Skandan, Anusha Venkatramani, Rashi Narain, Sruti Uppuluri and Samyuktha Krishnan.
