Sushma Mohan and Soorya Dance Company present BELLS AND ANKLETS in traditional Bharatanatyam. To celebrate the week of Navarathri, the festival of Mother Goddess Durga, Sushma Mohan will present SRICHAKRA, a dance production on the Srichakra mandala, regarded as the body of the universal mother Lalitha Tripura Sundari, meaning the transcendental beauty of the three worlds. The Srichakra signifies the play of cosmic consciousness in the acts of creation, preservation and dissolution of the universe; the play of individual consciousness in the three states of a human being, controlled by the mind and the five senses which are attached to or repulsed by life. The angles and the shapes that form the holy geometrical figure are presented in interesting formations by the Soorya dancers.
The evening will also feature Prasanna Kasthuri, founder-artistic director of Soorya Performing Arts in DHUN, an energetic performance of footwork to the beats of tabla and mridangam in Kathak and Bharatanatyam styles.
