As part of ORU PIRANALINTE ORMAKAYAI, the 90th birth anniversary observance of chenda maestro Kalamandalam Krishnankutty Poduval, Kalasagar will be honoring artistes with KALASAGAR AWARD in the field of Kathakali - Vesham, Music, Chenda, Maddalam & Chuttty as well as Bharatanatyam, Mohiniattam, Kuchipudi, Ottenthullal, Chakyarkoothu, Koodiyattam, Thayambaka and Panchavadyam - Thimila, Maddalam, Edakka, Thalam & Kombu. Celebrities/well known gurus from the field of traditional art form/film world/theatre group, scholars and Ministers/Govt. officials are expected to participate and give away the awards. This year’s program is NAVABHAVA, a tribute to Poduval by his 9 students as vadyamanjari, Bheeshma Pratignya, the Kathakali play scripted and directed by Kalamandalam Krishnankutty Poduval, in which leading artists like Sadanam Krishnankutty, Thiruvalla Gopikuttan Nair, Nelliyode Vasudevan Namboodiri among others will be participating.
The other important Kathakali play will be DASAMUKHARAVANAN by Kottakkal Chandrasekhara Varier, conceptualised and choreographed by Kalamandalam Vijayakrishnan. Rajan Poduval will be director of the project. The highlight of the event will be Kathakali play BAALIVADHAM in which Kalamandalam Ramachandranunnithan and Kottakkal Devadas will be doing the role of Bali and Sugreevan with the make-up style conceived and visualized by Kalamandalam Krishnankutty Poduval.
