Continuously breaking cultural boundaries, A.R. Rahman has received numerous accolades from all over the world and has often been referred to as the "genius maestro." Rahman has shattered records for individual worldwide sales, having sold more than 200 million albums, which contain his film score compositions over the past decade. Rahman’s work has been featured on the soundtracks of many critically acclaimed films, including; Lord Of The Rings, Bombay Dreams, Water (Oscar Nomination) and Lagaan (Oscar Nomination). Rahman is an active Ambassador to the United Nations and recently released a song in support of the UN to help promote the eradication of poverty across the world entitled, "Pray For Me Brother." In July 2006, Rahman performed at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl to 18,000 fans.
A.R. Rahman’s unique sound combines the ethnic music of China, India and Turkey with the sound of traditional Western symphony orchestra. A.R. Rahman has been redefining the sound of popular film music over the years. Rahman is generally regarded as the finest Indian film composer of his time. Rahman has worked with many of his country's brightest musical stars and a growing list of international luminaries such as; Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Zakir Hussain, L. Shankar, Apache Indian, and David Byrne.
A.R Rahman's long awaited return to the PNE Coliseum in Vancouver on Sunday, June 3rd promises to entertain fans with his 70 person performance troupe and a series of guest singers and musicians including: Sukhwinder Singh, Hariharan, Blaaze, Naresh Iyet (of Rang De Basanti fame), Chitra, Madhushree, Sadhana Sargam and many others.
