SHRISHTI - Creation: Temple dance ballet of India
Tradition perceives the origin of dance in Lord Shiva. His cosmic dance symbolizes the celestial cycles of creation and destruction, as well as the daily rhythm of birth and death. Lord Shiva with his little drum played and danced creating sounds set to syllabic discipline in the unruly universe. The cosmic disorder was turned to ordered movement. In the process were evolved rhythm, melody and word - the steps still held in great reverence by all forms of Indian classical dances- and creation of order in the universe.
Thr production features three classical dance styles including Bharatha Natyam, Manipuri including Pung drummers from Manipuri Nartnalaya and Odissi from Orissa Dance Academy
Designed (by Dr. Jaynthi Raman of Rasika, Portland) for global audience, the production is choreographed to chants from ancient scriptures to contemporary music and rhythm of ancient percussions. The production is further enhanced by exquisite costuming, authentic jewelry, and elaborate lighting, adding visual dimension to the ballet.
It contains an illustrious 11 member troupe of dancers and accompanying live orchestra of musicians (vocal, percussion and violin); from India with lighting technic
Original music score by Ganesh Rajagopalan (Ganesh Kumaresh)
