| After China's warning to cancel the Olympic torch relay, India has assured China that the torch will pass through smoothly.
China had warned that if security was not foolproof when the Olympic torch passes through New Delhi, then they could cancel this leg altogether.
Speaking to reporters, National Security Advisor MK Narayanan said India will take all possible precautions possible to ensure that the Olympic torch passes smoothly.
Sources say what has upset Beijing is the storming of the Chinese Embassy last week by Tibetan protestors. India's ambassador to China Nirumapa Rao was summoned on this and a protest registered.
Now a worried Beijing is talking to New Delhi and the Indian Olympic Association on foolproof security for the torch.
But a couple of hours after NDTV broke the story, the government assured China. ''We will take all possible precautions possible to ensure that the Olympic torch passes through India smoothly,'' said Narayanan.
Ever since the violence broke out in Tibet a couple of weeks ago, India has been walking a diplomatic tightrope.
But what is certain is that New Delhi will not want to annoy China and jeopardise it's growing ties. So what you can expect to see is India going out of it's way to ensure Beijing that it's interests will be taken care off.
