Left-backed Bandh fuels W Bengal's woes

The fuel price hike has fuelled tempers in Left-dominated West Bengal. If the ruling CPM called a 12-hour dawn-to-dusk bandh on Thursday, the state is bracing for another shutdown on Friday, thanks to a Trinamul Congress-sponsored bandh.
Adding to the woes of Kolkata commuters, the first spell of monsoon showers have put life completely out of gear.
''I was scheduled to go at 11 am. But the flight got cancelled. I have to reach Chennai anyhow today. I've to join my new job and report at 8.30 am tomorrow,'' said an air passenger.
With both the rail and air traffic severely disrupted, the stranded travelers were left to fend for themselves.
''We have experienced everything. Getting a cab from the Howrah station was very difficult. I paid around Rs 1,400 for the cab from the Howrah station. From here, we paid Rs 210 to the Howrah station. Today, the road was empty and it only took half the time,'' another air passenger said.
Things are likely to get worse as the opposition Trinamul Congress plans their own 12-hour bandh on Friday
