Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has resigned and said his resignation is with National Assembly Speaker.
Addressing the nation he said, "I leave it to the people to decide. Let them be judges and let them do justice. Though I am sure no charge can stand against me, I do not want instability and confrontation in the country".
"I do not want the office of President to come under impeachment procedure. I think this is not the time for individual bravado," he added.
He said it is a day of "important decisions".
Musharraf said "false and baseless" allegations have been levelled against him. People are being cheated by the false allegations levelled against him. These allegations would damage the interest of the nation, he added.
Addressing the nation, Musharraf said government should forget the past and look to the future to solve the economic problems of Pakistan. All issues can be resolved, he added.
The Pakistan President said that creating a false impression that his nine-year reign was leading the country towards economic ruin is misleading people.
He said he introduced essence of democracy in Pakistan in the last nine years.
Musharraf said he put Pakistan on the world map and made its voice heard in the international fora. "Unfortunately my efforts for political reconciliation have failed", he added.
He said he was not involved in conspiracies against government or individuals.
He said no chargesheet could stand against him.
I was ready to share my experience of eight years with the Government. But the coalition thought I was a problem not a solution, Musharraf added
