 INDIA , 7-November-2008  2:2:1 AM
Sources have told NDTV that Anti terror Squad (ATS) probing the Malegaon blasts has sent a request to the Army to let them question more serving officers.

In his reaction, Defence Minister A K Antony told NDTV: "We are waiting for a report, the Army will extend full cooperation. The Intelligence Bureau is investigating it."

Among those who could be questioned is a Colonel based in Deolali and a Major. The questioning will be based on the interrogation of retired Major Ramesh Upadhyay.

Mumbai Police will also be probing if Lt Col Srikant Prasad Purohit and others arrested in connection with the Malegaon blasts had any role in the explosions in other parts of the country this year even as the hunt for two absconding accused intensified on Thursday.

Colonel Purohit was earlier in Maratha Regiment. While he was serving in Jammu and Kashmir, he was put in a lower medical category because of ill health.

He was later shifted to Military Intelligence and was downgraded to a lower medical category while in Jammu and Kashmir.

During his postings with the military intelligence in Nasik and Pune, Purohit came in contact with the radical group Abhinav Bharat and one of the prime accused Major Updhyaya, formerly with the Territorial Army.

Call records between the Lt Col and Upadhyaya around and after the Malegaon blast are seen as incriminating.
