The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex on Friday rebounded to trade over the 11,000-points level by gaining over 187 points in early trade, taking strong cues from the global markets.
The BSE 30-share barometer, which had lost 337.33 points in Thursday's choppy trade, recovered by 187.87 points, or 1.50 per cent, to 11,135.27 points, with realty, consumer durables and metal sector stocks leading the recovery.
The wide-based National Stock Exchange's Nifty rose by 58.50 points, or 1.54 per cent, to 3,428 points.
Stock brokers said market sentiment was buoyed on the back of overnight gains on the US markets after JP Morgan Chase & Co posted a better-than-expected quarterly profits, raising hopes that the world banking sector is stabilising.
A firming trend on the other Asian equity markets also supported the recovery on the domestic markets, they said.
On Thursday, shares snapped their eight-session winning streak and fell nearly three per cent.
Meanwhile, the US Dow Jones Industrial Average had closed 1.19 per cent higher yesterday, while Japan's Nikkei and Hong Kong's Hang Seng were up almsot two per cent in early trade on Friday.
