AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday to press for the implementation of a Central government report for a package of Rs 8000 crore for development of the backward Bundelkhand region.
He was accompanied by a delegation of Congress leaders.
"The delegation wanted the implementation of a Central report which had recommended a package of Rs 8000 crore for Bundelkhand along with the creation of a separate Bundelkhand Development Authority for the development of the area," AICC General Secretary in-charge of UP Digvijay Singh told reporters after the meeting at the residence of the PM.
Singh said that Gandhi had travelled to the Bundelkhand area situated along the border of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh last summer and saw the acute poverty, migration of workers and the plight of the people.
