Jet cancels over 100 flights
Jet cancels over 100 flights as strike continues
 INDIA , 9-September-2009  3:26:34 AM

The agitation by Jet Airways pilots entered the second day on Wednesday with the private carrier cancelling over 100 domestic and international flights across the country, leaving passengers stranded.

Most of the morning flights of Jet were cancelled except its operations to Europe, the UK, North America and Singapore, airport sources said.

Terming the agitation as "completely wrong and illegal", Jet chief Naresh Goyal said the "pilots cannot hold the airlines, country and passengers to ransom".

Asked about the demand for reinstatement of two sacked pilots, he accused them of "misleading" other pilots and said "action will be taken as per the rules".

Industry sources said that the Jet management was likely to hold talks with the agitating pilots in a bid to resolve the crisis.

Meanwhile, Air India has come to the rescue of the Indian cricket team that was scheduled to go to Colombo on Wednesday by a Jet flight for a tri-nation one day series there. The national carrier will operate a special flight for the team.

In Delhi, ten flights remained cancelled even as the airlines assured passengers of the disrupted flights that they it will give full refund for the tickets.

In Chennai, the Airways cancelled six domestic flights out of the city. However, international flights to various destinations, including Singapore, operated as scheduled, airport sources said.

Two Jet Airways flights were also cancelled in Kochi. These included flights to Sharjah and Mumbai.

The airlines is trying to accommodate passengers of Jet Airways in its low-cost arm JetLite
