| Curfew in parts of Kashmir as a precautionary measure

Curfew was clamped in Srinagar, Pampore, Kakapora, Pulwama and Sopore towns as a precautionary measure even as restrictions remained in force in other major towns of Kashmir Valley on Wednesday in the wake of a protest march called by separatists.
Hardline Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who has given a call for march to Pampore, was placed under house arrest last evening as a preventive measure, a police spokesman said.
"Curfew is in force in Srinagar, Pampore, Kakapora and Pulwama towns in south and Sopore town of north Kashmir", the spokesman said.
He said restrictions were also imposed on the movement of people in Budgam, Anantnag, Bijbehara, Qaimoh, Awantipora and Baramulla towns of the Valley.
Police and paramilitary forces were maintaining a vigil as barricades were placed to restrict movement in certain places.
