Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa — who was the chief guest at the Commonwealth Games closing ceremony —will be hosted for lunch by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday.
External Affairs Minister S M Krishna on Thursday held talks with his Sri Lankan counterpart G L Peiris, who arrived here on a visit on Thursday. Peiris briefed Krishna about steps taken by the Sri Lankan government to resettle Tamil civilians displaced in the war against the LTTE, government sources said.
Krishna reiterated India’s position about expediting an enduring political settlement revolving around the devolution of powers to minority communities. These issues would also figure in discussions between Singh and Rajapaksa on Friday.
The PM will host a lunch for Rajapaksa and his delegation, comprising Foreign Minister G L Peiris and Foreign Secretary C R Jayasinghe, at his residence.
