On Monday evening, Lalu Prasad’s SUV stopped at Ambedkarnagar, a Dalit village off the Patna-Saran Road. By light of an electric torch, Lalu found his way to a tumbledown hut, to whose elderly occupant he said, “E-bar humra sarkar banabe (make my government this time)”. The man only smiled.
A little later, Lalu stopped near a group of flagwaving supporters. They rushed to offer him a chair. Gravely, Lalu told them that the chair he wants is “CM ka kursi”, and “naara lagaane se ab kaam nahi chalega (just slogans won’t do)”. Someone murmured, “Yes, that’s true, all that he wants is the kursi.”
Earlier, at a rally for wife Rabri Devi in Sonepur, Lalu apologized for “past mistakes”. “Is bar mauka deke dekho, Bihar ko rail ki tarah chamkaa dunga (Give me a chance, I will transform Bihar as I transformed the Railways).” He asked for a show of support.
