Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday stood by his remarks, made in the Assembly last month, that Jammu and Kashmir had only acceded to and not merged with India.
The chief minister said he did not regret what he had said and those who heard or read the speech in the context in which it was made understood what he meant.
“The biggest proof of it is that the people who next day protested against my speech were the ones thumping their desks when I concluded my speech,” he said, in an apparent reference to BJP legislators. “It is only later that they were told (by the leadership) how they should react...”
The chief minister maintained that whatever he had said was factually correct and if any clarification was needed he would say it in the Assembly. Omar said that if an elected representative did not have the courage to say what he believes is true, he had no right to say it outside.
