Mounting pressure on government and security forces, Maoists have given a call for a three-week-long bandh in tribal Bastar in Chhattisgarh from tomorrow and asked the people to stock up essential commodities and refrain from travelling outside their villages.
Naxalite posters have surfaced at many remote villages in Dantewada and Bijapur districts in South Bastar regarding rebels’ call for a bandh from December 2 to 21 to observe “PLGA month”. Peoples’ Liberation Guerilla Army (PLGA) is the military wing of outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist).
Police sought to downplay it saying that a close vigil was being maintained in entire Bastar as the rebels observe week long bandh during this period every year. Reports said the rebels dropped pamphlets and pasted posters in the remote villages in Dantewada and Bijapur districts, asking bus and taxi operators not to ply their vehicles, government employees to abstain from duty and to close all tribal residential schools during this period.
