To keep their agitation violence-free this time around, the Gurjjars have thought up an intelligence-cum-policing network to tackle the rogues within. Former armymen from the community have been deployed along the railway tracks in Bayana, ground zero of the current agitation, to keep an eye on troublemakers, as well as impostors and non-Gurjjars who might try to meld with the protesters.
Speakers put up along the tracks blare out warnings: “Our local CID teams are roaming around everywhere. Do not instigate violence and do not come to the protest drunk. If you find someone trying to mislead you with false information or rumours, first speak to the CID.”
A team of community elders, again ex-armymen, ensure “understanding” in private, followed by a bit of “fitness” — some tight slaps and a stern warning. So far, the measures have ensured discipline.
