Unable to break the deadlock over the 2G spectrum scam as also the series of scams that came to light in the past six months, the UPA government is looking at the option of setting up another Group of Ministers (GoM), this one to finalise measures to check corruption.
Likely to be headed by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, the GoM may suggest steps, including legislation, needed to fight instances in corruption in the government.
The other important member of the yet-to-be constituted GoM could be Union Chemicals and Fertilisers Minister M K Alagiri, who has already upped the ante against his party colleague and former Telecom Minister A Raja, whose name figures in the spectrum allocation scam. Defence Minister A K Antony, Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee, Home Minister P Chidambaram, HRD and Communications Minister Kapil Sibal and Law Minister M Veerappa Moily are likely to be the other members of the GoM.
