| In a major embarrassment to the Maharashtra government, an NCP MLA has been accused of raping a 22-year-old woman. The MLA has since been on the run and has now been suspended from the party.
According to the victim's complaint, Dilip Wagh, the MLA from Pachora in Jalgaon district, invited her to a government guest house in Nashik on November 21 on the pretext of a job offer.
She was then allegedly gangraped by Wagh and his personal assistant Rajendra Mali.
The woman also claimed that she was threatened with dire consequences by the MLA if she complained about the incident.
But after four days, she mustered courage and lodged a complaint with the Sarkarvada police station in Nashik.
The MLA, who did not disclose his whereabouts, meanwhile claims he was being framed.
"I don't know the girl and the girl doesn't know me. The charges are politically motivated", said Wagh.
The NCP, a part of the ruling coalition in the Maharashtra Government, called for an "in-depth" inquiry into the incident.
"Maharashtra NCP President Madhukar Pichad suspended the MLA from the party and has asked the government to conduct an in-depth inquiry into the case," said party spokesperson Madan Bafna
