A court here on Saturday adjourned to April 6 the disproportionate asset case trial against former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.
When the trial came up before Special Court judge B M Mallikarjunaiah, defence counsels Navaneetha Krishnan and A Asokan filed an application pointing out defects in the translated version (from Tamil to English) of the statements of 55 witnesses in the case.
The court office then sought time to compare the original deposition with the translated version and furnish the correct version of the statements of witnesses, following which the Judge adjourned the trial to April 6.
In all there are 259 witnesses in the case.
On March 8, the Special Court had posted the case for recording of the statements of the accused. On March 18 Jayalalithaa filed a criminal petition in High Court challenging three orders of the Special Court on translation of witness statement, upon which the court granted 25 days time to furnish the correct version
