The man known as Mukul Roy’s son believes he has built an identity of his own. “Only people outside of this constituency know me by my father’s identity,” Subhrangshu Roy had said, days before he was arrested on charges of assaulting poll officials.
“In my area everybody knows me as the boy next door, who is there for them for any need, any hour, day or night,” Subhrangshu had told The Indian Express.
Subhrangshu, whose father is the Trinamool Congress general secretary and a Union minister, is contesting from Bijpur in North 24-Parganas, which votes in West Bengal’s third phase. At 27, he is the party’s youngest candidate.
An engineer with an MBA degree, he has a number of interests. He has played cricket for his district. He has developed software for a “multi-lingual, multi-purpose SMS campaign.” Keen on social work, he has set up in his home a Jugalnath Memorial Society, a computer centre-cum-kindergarten and primary school for underprivileged children.
