                      | Al Qaeda plotted a possible train attack at an unspecified location in the US to grimly mark 10th anniversary of the September 11 attacks this year, American officials said based on intelligence found in the home of slain Osama bin Laden.
The preliminary set of information obtained from the huge cache of materials recovered from the Abbottabad hideout of bin Laden deep inside Pakistan revealed that his outfit was planning to attack America's railway network, especially in key cities and bridges, on September 11, 2011 so as to maximize casualties.
Based on the information available, the Department of Homeland Security issued an intelligence message about potential al-Qaeda contemplation in February 2010 plots against the US rail sector.
However, it said as of now it has no information of any imminent terrorist threat to the US rail sector, but wanted to make agencies aware of the alleged plotting; it is unclear if any further planning has been conducted since February of last year |
