| A day after taking charge as West Bengal's Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee was hard at work today at the Writers Building, where she spent most part of her day. Staying true to her word, Mamata Banerjee stuck to a small car, and her trademark white-saree-and-hawai-chappal look.
On Friday, she had made it clear that her lifestyle would not change just because she is Chief Minister now.
"I won't use the bullet-proof car. I don't want to spend so much public money for my security...I will not do anything that keeps me away from the masses," Mamata had told reporters after taking over as the new Chief Minister. (
However, the real challenge for Mamata would be to keep things simple in a state know for its complexities of governance, especially after including many non-political faces in her cabinet
As many as six cabinet ministers have negligible political experience. Some would call them the 'outsiders' in Mamata's government.
But these ministers are confident of delivering. "Only the arena has changed, we have enough administrative experience," said Rachpal Singh, a former IPS officer.
"Why call us inexperienced. We may be new, but are totally up to the challenge," said Bratya Basu, minister and a theatre personality.
The next few months are likely to be critical for Mamata Banerjee and her ministers, as everyone will be watching whether this new government can match its words with work on the ground.
