Karim Morani's bail plea rejected,
Karim Morani's bail plea rejected, to be taken to Tihar Jail
 INDIA , 30-May-2011  9:18:7 AM
Delhi's Tihar will soon have another VIP inmate. A Delhi court has dismissed the bail plea of Cineyug Films' Karim Morani who has been named as the co-conspirator in the 2G scam by the CBI.

Morani has been accused by the CBI of facilitating kickback payments to Kalaignar TV.

A special CBI court had, last Thursday, reserved its order on his bail plea.

The court on Monday was severe in its observation regarding Morani.

It said, "The accused used every possible legal subterfuge to delay the ultimate as he filed seven applications within a span of less than a month...An accused is entitled to avail all legal remedies available but the sheer number of applications filed by him reflects adversely on his conduct indicating he's interested in deliberately delaying the disposal of the matter by seeking date after date, on one pretext or the other."

Morani had been seeking exemptions from court appearances citing medical grounds. During his last hearing too, Morani came to court wearing a neck brace. His lawyers said he's undergone an angioplasty and has been in hospital for many days.

Meanwhile Karim Morani's family has issued a press release.

"The family is completely shattered by the way his medical condition was ignored in the case of his anticipatory bail application. Bail is not a gift from those who yield temporary power. It's a right. The law must take its course, a sick man should be given the right to protect his health and justice will prevail," said the statement.

In its second chargesheet, CBI had said that Swan Telecom and Dynamix Realty Promoters Shahid Usman Balwa and Vinod Goenka channeled Rs. 200 crore to DMK family-run Kalaignar TV, through Kusegaon Fruits and Vegetables Pvt Ltd and Morani's Cineyug Films Pvt Ltd.
