Former International Monetary Fund (IMF) Chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn falsely claimed to have diplomatic immunity after being arrested and hauled off an Air France flight just moments before takeoff from Kennedy Airport, official police transcripts have revealed.
Police statements released for the first time on Thursday have shown that the French presidential hopeful asked officials, ''What is this about?'' and ''What for?''
He reacted with total disbelief that he was being placed in handcuffs, saying: “Is that necessary?”
Strauss-Kahn had also told detectives who had hauled him off an Air France flight that he “had diplomatic immunity,” and wanted to “speak with someone at the French consulate”, The Daily Mail reports.
They told him that only New York police Department (NYPD) officers could explain things to him at that point, the report said, adding that after spending ten minutes with the handcuffs behind his back he asked: “Can you handcuff me in the front?”
