With Jammu Kashmir Governor N N Vohra paying obeisance and performing pooja at the Amarnath shrine amid chanting of vedic mantras, the annual pilgrimage in South Kashmir Himalayas commenced on both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes in the Valley this morning.
Accompanied by his wife Usha Vohra and Chief Executive Officer of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board, R K Goyal, the Governor prayed for peace, harmony, progress and prosperity in the state, an official spokesman of the Board said. A number of pilgrims were also present on the occasion.
The Governor also reviewed overall arrangements made for pilgrims and expressed satisfaction at the support extended by the state government, Army, state police, central paramilitary forces and other agencies. For smooth conduct of the pilgrimage, he stressed the need for effective supervision and monitoring on continuing basis
