Stalin may face arrest
After an FIR was registered against DMK chief M Karunanidhi's son MK Stalin, Chennai is abuzz with speculation that he could be arrested.
 INDIA , 1-December-2011  22:25:5 PM
Mr Stalin, his son Udhayanidhi and four others were booked for allegedly coercing a man to sell his property at a prime locality to a family member at a lesser price.

The FIR followed a complaint by one N S Kumar on November 29 alleging that one of Stalin's aides had forced him to sell his property at Chittaranjan Das Road at Teynampet area after getting the tenants to vacate it under threat, police said.

However, Mr Stalin says it is a false case and he would fight it legally.

"To divert people's attention from the price rise issue and case against Jayalalithaa, a false case has been foisted against me. I was expecting this false case. It's a bit delayed, so I am not surprised. I am ready to face the case with strength and bravery. I am not seeking exemptions like Jayalalithaa. For this government, FIR is not First Information Report, but Fraud Information Report. I am waiting to face the case," said Mr Stalin.

The FIR was followed by a complaint by one N S Kumar on November 29, alleging that one of Stalin's aides had forced him to sell his property at Chittaranjan Das Road at Teynampet area after getting the tenants to vacate it under threat, police said.

Police said the complainant informed that he was forced to sell the property for a lesser price of Rs. 5.54 crore but did not quantify what the market value was.

Acting on the complaint, Central Crime Branch registered a case against Stalin, Udhayanidhi, P Venugopalreddy, Raja Shankar, Subbareddy and Srinivas under various IPC sections including 120 B (punishment of criminal conspiracy) and 506 (criminal intimidation), they said.

Recently, several senior leaders of his party were put behind bars on land grab charges. DMK has called this political vendetta.

However, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has said these arrests are based on genuine complaints.
